...eh. While I read a lot of novels published by Tor-Forge, I was really surprised that they published this one--
not because it's a bad book, because it isn't. It's an okay-to-pretty good-book, but the subject matter is not
what I expect from Tor. It's an average story of ice-skating competitiors from different cultures who fall in
love and have an escape-car trip, break up, get back together, etc. You do learn quite a bit about the world
of completitive ice-skating, and the characters are well drawn, and the book is well-written--except for a
number o obvious editing errors that I also do not expect from Tor editors. If you like a nice little love story in
a different venue, I guess you will like this fine. I just expected more.

In Park City, Utah, ice skating pairs prepare for their event at the Winter Olympics. The favorite team is the Russian duet Mikhail Kozlof who is considered the world's best and his partner Elena Boiko who has political influence that she used to become his skating mate after hers died. In fact Mikhail is unhappy that his long time coach and his partner were removed from his team while forcing him to ice dance with snotty Elena.

American Kerry Niles and her lazy partner Adam Cutter are the best chance for the home country to win a medal. Kerry meets Mikhail's friendly former partner Tanya Novokiva who with Sergei Isavenivic is good but not great. Tanya introduces Kerry to Mikhail who she was attracted to when she saw him at the World's two years ago. Mikhail stuns Kerry when he asks her to help him deflect. If she helps him, Kerry knows this will cost her only chance at medalling.

Tango's Edge is a strong romantic suspense thriller starring two likable lead characters, a super support cast, and a powerful world stage ice dancing background. The story line contains more twists and spins than a dance routine as the course of freedom to love is not easy with both American and Russian interests involved in a Cold War revision. That segue seems real even if two decades has passed since the Iron Curtain collapsed as the audience will score Carol Belacera's tale with a 10.

The complex relationships of two Olympic ice skating dance teams give different views of skating for the gold. American skaters Kerry and Adam are out of gold medal contention, or at least Kerry thinks so, skating one last Olympics for the benefit of her partner, Adam, who is in love with her even after their personal relationship ended long ago. For Russian skaters Elena and Mikhail, Elena is driven to win gold by any means, to the point that she has demanded to be paired with Mikhail to accomplish her goal, much to Mikhail’s chagrin. In Russia, he isn’t given a choice. However, he sees the opportunity to gain asylum in the U.S., and he has information that he hopes will help to barter his escape from the ties his home country binds him with. Lucky for him, Kerry’s brother works with the C.I.A.

Even before he approaches Kerry to ask for her help, the chemistry between them sizzles, and yet a personal relationship is out of the question knowing what lies ahead of him.

The story follows their cross country trek to win Mikhail’s freedom from Russia, from his overbearing partner, and from a haunting past. Mikhail and Kerry discover they have much in common along their personal journeys to the Olympic dream. Followed by the Russian mafia and people with their own personal agendas to stop them, this is a thrilling tale that kept me reading to find out how it all unfolds. Ms. Bellacera does a brilliant job of creating well-rounded characters that you cheer for and boo for. There are even moments when you feel sorry for the antagonist—well almost.

In the interest of disclosure, there were many editing snafus. My favorite one was an errant search and replace, where the letters t-u-n-a were replaced with c-a-v-i-a-r and “whole word” clearly wasn’t selected. This created one spectacular word that stopped me dead in my tracks until I was able to solve the puzzle of what that word was meant to be. There was also one section of the story that stretched my imagination beyond belief – while the bad guys chased after Kerry and Mikhail, they had an uncanny ability to know exactly where they’d stopped. The truck stop for food I could buy, but later, when they switched cars, it didn’t make sense to me how the bad guys 1) knew they had stopped to do that, and 2) knew – traveling across the width of the entire country—which car lot and in which city they stopped (this also turned into a copyedit error—which city did they stop in?). That “bad guy” scene wasn’t necessary to the story or to the plot.

That being said, the occasional editing errors did not stop me from enjoying the story as a whole. It was a very entertaining read and I would highly recommend it.
You won't to miss reading this book!! I have read every book this author has written and every book has been exceptional! Once you finish the books you continue to think about the characters that is how real Bellacera brings her books to life. Although I have truly enjoyed all of her books Incense and Peppermints is my favorite. I HIGHLY recommend it. Just a wonderful and realistic book!
As a student of Mrs. Bellacera, my first thought was to read something she has written, in order to study her writing style. I purchased a copy of Tango's Edge for my kindle and set about my mission. Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down! I got sucked right in, and forgot all about studying anything. Russian ice dancer Mikhail Kozlof wants desperately to defect from his country, and has information he believes he can trade to the US government in exchange for asylum. The plot contains loads of twists and turns, and plenty of sexual tension, as lead characters Mikhail Kozlof and Kerry Niles journey across the country in an effort to reach US authorities before the bad guys can get to them first. There are characters in this book that you will love, and some that you will love to hate. All of them are very well developed, not just the two lead characters. It was as if they were real people in a real situation, unfolding before my very eyes. As I read the words on the page, I could hear the character's voices in my head, especially Mikhail's thick Russian accent. Tango's Edge will take you on an exciting, sensual, "edge of your seat" thrilling adventure! All you have to do is open the book. You won't be disappointed.
